Sydney

Sydney is the oldest capital city of New South Wales and is also the most populated in Australia. With such iconic landmarks like the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, Sydney is one of the most famous and easily recognisable cities in the world.

The climate in Sydney is quite steady. The summers are warm and the winters are cool and rainfall is spread out consistently across the year. High temperatures average around 22°C and low temperatures average around 14°C.
Sydney is one of the most multicultural cities in the world and nothing reflects that better than its diverse range cultural activities and events.

The Sydney Festival is the biggest cultural festival in Australia. It was first established in 1977 and is held every year in January. There are over 70 events covering a range of activities such as music, dance and drama. It is estimated that 1 million people attend the festival every year.

Sydney Royal Easter Show was first established in 1823 and is held every year for two weeks in April. The Show is a combination of a fair, an amusement park and an agricultural show. One of the most popular elements of The Show are the showbags.  There are over 300 to choose from and the prices range from $3 to $30. Every night ends with a show of fireworks. The event attracts more than 1 million people during its run.

Tropfest first began in 1993 and is currently the world’s biggest short film festival. It is broadcasted via satellite to the other major cities in Australia. 16 finalists are picked from hundreds of applicants and the films are screened in public places across Australia. In Sydney, over 100,000 people attend the screenings in The Domain, 34 hectares of open space near the Royal Botanic Gardens, where the films are projected onto large screens.
