Hobart

Hobart was founded in 1803 and is the second oldest capital city after Sydney. The city is located in the island state of Tasmania and has a population just over 200,000.

This city’s climate is similar to that of Canberra’s. The summer and winter seasons are comparatively cooler compared to other Australian cities. Average highs in temperatures is around 16-17°C with average lows below 9°C. The city seldom experiences snowfall.

Hobart is perhaps, most recognised for its role in the famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. It is held every year the day after Christmas (Boxing Day) and starts in Sydney. The race distance is over 1000 kilometres. The celebration at the end of the race leads into the Taste Festival which runs for a week and celebrates Tasmanian produce, arts and craft, and entertainment. It is estimated that 300,000 people attend during the week, every year.
