Canberra
Canberra is the capital city of Australia and was constructed in 1913 as a compromise between Australia’s two biggest cities, Melbourne and Sydney. It is also located, neutrally, between those two cities in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
The city has an oceanic climate, which means Canberra experiences fairly cool summers and moderately cool winters. The annual range of temperatures is narrower and they do not have the dry summers like other Australian capital cities. It is not uncommon that the city will have some light snowfall but it dissipates rapidly. The city has one of the lowest annual rainfall in the country.
As the nation’s capital, the city has Parliament House, the High Court of Australia and the Australian War Memorial. They are all popular places to visit for both visitors and school excursions. Other significant national institutions are the Australian War Memorial, the National Museum of Australia and the National Gallery of Australia.
